Unbelievable what people will do to bottom feed. From what I have read and gather from your experience Steph, you are well within your rights to be upset. Don’t fret too much , we affiliate with you because of your overall story and in depth knowledge. Not because of a few posts. It’s easy to read through those!

Even if she did credit me and/or Josh, she still doesn’t have permission to publish the article. Posting a link is fine, but copying the entire thing to your blog is a no-no.
I know it’s not a big important article or anything, but it’s really annoying to spend time working on something and then have someone just cut and paste it onto their blog without even thinking twice about it…

Yeah, I saw that she took it down a little while ago.
I don’t think she actually picks the articles that are posted there- I think it’s an automated thingamajiggy that scrapes content from various blogs. Either way, it is irksome.

Wow! Lots of negativity, however I can identify with it. I spend lots of time writing only to have others take it as their own. One guy actually took my complete Landlord and Property Management course, photocopied it into his own book (complete with minor mistakes) and has become a national speaker on apartment house riches. Its just not right, however without the plagiarism and all this exposure, I would not have found you and your other articles. In my case he has made a name for himself that appears to be catching up to him. In the future as he is falling, I’ll be able to capitalize on him by promoting that they should learn from the original not from the copy. He has also copied other peoples information also… so he has nothing original.
Good comes from the bad actions of others as well as the good actions of you.
We have to hang in there and not let the sleaze bother us….keep up the good work.

Wow, Alan- that really sucks. He took the entire course and photocopied it?
Did you threaten him with legal action or confront him at all? I would not be able to let something like that slide. I think I would show up to every single one of his events and let people know what a scumbag he is. Who is it, anyway?
You are right, though, it will catch up to him eventually. People like that always get what they deserve. Sometimes it takes awhile, but it always comes back around.

Steph, this isn’t something you can stop. But you can make this work for you.
I don’t know if Bigger Pockets will let you do this, but when you write articles you need to include a phrase like “Real Estate Wholesaling” with a link back to your blog. This stealing of your content is usually mechanized and this is a backdoor way of building backlinks to your site and helping you building your rankings in the google search engine.

Actually, the way I found out about this particular loser was because I had links in the article to two other articles I wrote on BP, so when she posted it to her blog I got a pingback.
It’s just really annoying to spend time writing stuff, and then having some yahoo rip it off. Makes me really mad and revenge wanting.

Hey Jason,
When she took the article off of BiggerPockets, she left the links in the article (that link back to two other BP articles I wrote). When she posted it on her website, I got what’s called a “pingback” notifying me by email that someone was linking to my other two articles.
Not sure if that makes any sense.
Basically if she would have taken those links out, I would never have found out about it..

That’s EXACTLY why it pisses me off so much!
It sometimes takes me hours to write those articles for BiggerPockets. I get writer’s block all the time, and even though most of my articles over there are not that long, it still takes me forever to get them finished. So, when some a-hole comes along and just steals my stuff, it makes my blood boil….
